    Electric Patio Heaters

First of all… Your electric patio heater comes in two voltages  120v and 240v.  Your choice will depend on how big of space you want to heat and,  what your budget is.

If you choose a heater that takes 240v then you will want to hire a certified electrician to do the wiring for you.  You may also want to hire one for the 120v if you’re not into DIY projects!

With all Electric patio heaters, you will need a timer so the patio heater will turn itself off if left unattended.   Some models have that feature built-in!

The box below is a guide to how big Or, how many heaters you might need to heat your patio.

Free-Standing Electric Patio Heaters (120 volts)

Most electric patio heaters running on 120 volts can be used almost everywhere.  In the house, Garage, or a greenhouse, as long as you have a 120v outlet nearby.

It is best to plug your electric heater directly into a wall outlet. However, if you must use an extension cord, only use one that is heavy-duty, meaning it has to at least have 14-gauge wire or better yet, 10-gauge.

The picture to the left is what a typical free-standing electric heater looks like.  It will rain down nice heat on the people sitting in those classic Adirondack chairs!

Before I show you more patio heaters, I would like you to read the following question that people ask about the prices of good quality patio heaters…

Why does this heater cost 5 times as much as most others are selling?

    Answer:

In the scale of patio heater prices this one is not expensive but is mid-range, and so is its quality. Patio heaters that sell for $100-$200-$300 are in our experience very light-duty and lightweight, and they look like the price paid, with skinny leaning poles, small multi-piece reflectors that quickly lose their integrity, no replacement parts available, and blow over in the first wind gust. Cheap patio heaters are like disposable lighters: You use them until they break, then put them in the landfill. – courtesy of FAQ from Alfresco Heating.

Funny as that may seem, there’s some truth to this!  Most of the higher-priced heaters are the ones recommended the most!

Environmental impact of Electric Patio Heaters

For you environmentally conscious people…Electric patio heaters are the cleanest way to warm your patio or outside space.  They give off no harmful pollutants so they can even be used indoors!

Hanging Electric Outdoor Heaters (120 volts)

Hanging Infrared Heaters are one of the best choices for directing heat centered on a table or seating area.  they are great for inside your gazebo!

As with most 120 volt heaters, they run on 1500 watts and 5100 BTU’s of heat.  Hanging patio heaters are not waterproof, but water and weather resistant!  they need to be installed under a covered structure like a covered patio, gazebo, canopy, or awning.

Ceiling/Wall mounted Patio Heaters (240 volts)

One of the best (or the best!) ways to heat your patio, is to purchase a ceiling or wall-mounted heater that runs on 240 volts!  Heaters with this much power can heat a larger area within your patio.

Don’t forget… Heaters with 240 volts will need a licensed electrition (or a good DYI person) to run the wiring to your heater!

Just a reminder…Electric heat is the cleanest source of energy.  these patio heaters can also be installed in your garage/shop etc.

WE recommend that you purchase, or ask your electrician about a dimmer control for and 240-volt heater.  The Bromic and Infratech models each take a different controller. See 240v dimmers at end of the post
